That’s why Rio Dental & Orthodontics is proud to offer in-house orthodontic services so you can depend on us for all of your dental and orthodontic needs under one roof.
Finding quality, convenient orthodontics in Dallas is made easy with Rio Dental & Orthodontics. Instead of having to drive around to different specialists, we bring the specialists to you! Dr. Michael Choy is our board-certified orthodontist, and he has helped countless children, teenagers, adults, and everyone in-between by transforming their teeth for the better.
If you’re ready to schedule an orthodontic consultation for your or your child, we encourage you to contact any one of our four locations around Texas. We offer several different types of braces so you can consult with the orthodontist about which treatment option is best for you.
Traditional Braces
Braces have been used to correct misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth, and other common orthodontic issues for over a hundred years. The braces offered today are smaller, sleeker, and more durable than ever before. They’re a cost-effective option for patients of all ages to make significant improvements to their smile.
Anatomy of Traditional Braces
Traditional braces include silver brackets that are bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth. These brackets have edges that are known as “wings,” which are attached to elastic bands. The bands hold the wires in place, which work to move the teeth while the brackets work as anchors.
Over the course of treatment, patients will return to one of our four offices for progress appointments and to get the wires and rubber bands replaced and tightened.
While braces are likely to cause some mild oral sensitivity and irritation at first, this quickly goes away as the mouth “toughens up” and gets used to them. Younger patients will also love getting to choose their favorite color for their elastic bands! We love offering every shade of the rainbow, including more neutral options for adults who’d like to maintain a more subtle, professional look.

Invisalign® Clear Braces
If you would prefer a more discrete orthodontic look, we have an option for you too! With Invisalign®, there are no brackets, wires, or rubber bands. Instead, the patient wears various sets of clear plastic aligners. They are virtually invisible and can be removed, so it’s easier to eat and complete your oral hygiene routine.
At Rio Dental & Orthodontics, our team will take a look at your orthodontic needs to determine if you could be a candidate for Invisalign®.
At What Age Can You Get Braces?
Age isn’t a factor in determining if a patient is a candidate for orthodontic treatment. Healthy teeth can be moved and improved upon at any age!
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children get an orthodontic check-up at the first sign of an orthodontic problem, preferably no later than age 7. Few patients will need to begin treatment that early, but some may benefit from early intervention.
Am I Too Old For Braces?
As we said, healthy teeth can be moved at any age. Today, about one orthodontic patient in five is an adult, and many patients are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, and beyond.
Are There Age-related Considerations?
Adult patients often have conditions that younger patients don’t deal with, such as having insufficient bone between the roots for adequate blood supply, gingivitis infections, or marginal bone loss.
Adult’s bones are also harder and no longer growing, and aging tissue often takes longer to adjust to the new position of the teeth. These are known as biomechanical limitations, and they can make tooth realignment a slightly more complex process than with children. However, successful treatment can still easily be done.
The team at Rio Dental & Orthodontics is highly experienced in providing orthodontic treatment to patients of all ages, so we are able to assess what type of treatment will best benefit you and your specific issues.
How Long Will My Treatment Take?
Orthodontic treatment times are completely different for each patient depending on their unique needs. However, typically the active stage of treatment (wearing braces or other dental appliances) usually takes 6-30 months. After that, you will receive a retainer to wear to maintain your smile.
How Often Will I See My Orthodontist During Treatment?
You will visit your orthodontist about every six to ten weeks during treatment. These appointments allow the orthodontist to make any changes or adjustments needed to your Invisalign or braces, as well as monitor the overall health of your mouth, teeth, and gums.
What is the Average Cost of Orthodontic Treatment?
Weighed against the cost of living with problematic teeth, orthodontic care is a wise investment in your health and well-being, and at Rio Dental we offer several flexible payment options. Payment can vary depending on your specific needs, which is all discussed during your initial consultation.
