For your convenience, the dentists and their team at the Rio Dental location in Fort Worth are happy to accept Texas Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program). This is in addition to the variety of dental insurance benefits plans we accept at all locations. We are in-network with several PPO plans. Contact us to find out if we take your plan.
Medicaid and CHIP
By law, all states including Texas must provide dental benefits to children covered by Medicaid and CHIP. Whether or not an adult is covered for dental care under Medicaid depends on the plan in which you are enrolled. Our front office staff will be happy to review your plan with you to determine whether or not you have dental coverage.
According to Texas Health and Human Services, CHIP is designed for families that do not qualify for Medicaid because they earn too much money, but they still cannot afford to buy private health insurance. To qualify for CHIP, a child must be 18 years old or younger, a Texas resident and a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
The enrollment fees and co-payments for CHIP depend on the number of people in your family and your family’s income and assets. Enrollment fees are no more than $50 a year for all the children in the family. Some families pay no enrollment fee. Co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions range from $3 to $5 for lower-income families and $20 to $35 for higher-income families.
Covered Dental Services for Kids
Your Medicaid and CHIP Dentist recommends scheduling your child’s first dental checkup when their first baby tooth appears or before they are one year old. This early visit allows the dentist to check the development of your child’s smile and bite. If intervention is required, we want to catch the problem sooner rather than later.
Some covered dental services for children include:
- Routine Exams
- Dental Cleanings
- X-rays
- Fillings
- Fluoride Application
- Tooth Extractions
Limited orthodontic services are also provided for children who have serious dental problems that are medically necessary and have prior authorization.
If you have any questions or concerns about the financial aspects of your treatment at either of our locations, don’t hesitate to contact us.
