Traditional Braces

Traditional Braces

Braces are used to fix issues such as misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth, and other common orthodontic issues. The braces we offer to patients today are sleeker, smaller, and more durable than ever. They’re a great cost-effective option for anyone looking to make significant improvements to their smile.

Anatomy of Metal Braces

Traditional braces treatment includes silver brackets bonded to the front of the teeth. The brackets have edges that are known as “wings” which have elastic bands attached. These hold the orthodontic wires in place, which work to move the teeth while the brackets work as anchors. These wires and bands are replaced over time at progress appointments to get the desired results.

Comfort of Braces

While braces are likely to cause mild sensitivity and irritation at the beginning, this quickly subsides as the mouth gets used to the braces. Younger patients also get to pick out their favorite colors for the elastic bands at every appointment! We love offering every shade of the rainbow, including neutral options for adults who’d like to maintain a more subtle, professional look.

Invisalign® Clear Braces

Invisalign®

If you prefer not to have traditional metal braces, we’ve got an option for you too! Invisalign® does away with the traditional model of brackets and wires, replacing them with a set of aligners that are customized for your unique mouth and crafted from clear, comfortable plastic.

These aligners are virtually impossible to notice and can be removed so you can eat and function as normal. At Rio Dental & Orthodontics, we’ll be happy to take a look at your orthodontic needs and determine whether or not Invisalign® could be the right solution for you.

Orthodontic FAQs

Orthodontists are dental specialists who diagnose and treat problems that relate to the position, alignment, or spacing of the teeth, along with related irregularities in the face and jaw. At Rio Dental, providing orthodontic solutions is one of our specialties.

Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about the treatments we provide.

What’s the Best Age for Orthodontic Treatment?

Age is not a factor in determining if a patient is a good candidate for orthodontic treatment. Regardless of a patient’s age, if an individual wants to have straighter teeth or improve overall jaw and alignment issues, they may be a candidate for orthodontic treatment. Patients can be in their 60s and 70s and still benefit from orthodontic treatment!

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children consult with an orthodontist at the first sign of an orthodontic problem, preferably no later than age 7. Few patients will need to begin treatment that early, but some may benefit from early intervention.

Are There Age-related Considerations?

Dental Braces

Adult patients often have conditions that younger patients don’t have, including insufficient bone between the roots for adequate blood supply, mild gingivitis infections, or marginal bone loss.

Adult bones are also harder and no longer growing, and aging tissue often takes longer to adjust to the new position of your teeth. These are known as biomechanical limitations, and that can make tooth realignment a more involved process than with children. However, successful treatment can easily be done with the right team.

The orthodontists at Rio are highly experienced in providing orthodontic treatment to patients of all ages, so we are able to assess what type of treatment will best benefit you.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Orthodontic treatment times are different for every individual depending on their specific issues and goals. Typically, a patient will have braces or Invisalign for about 6-30 months, then wear a custom-made retainer afterwards to maintain their smile.

How Often Will I See My Orthodontist During Treatment?

Orthodontic Treatment

You will visit your orthodontist roughly every 6-10 weeks so they can make any necessary changes or adjustments to your treatment. They will also ensure everything is progressing as it should and monitor your overall tooth and gum health.

What is the Average Cost of Orthodontic Treatment?

The cost of orthodontic treatment varies based on the method selected, the amount of time treatment takes, and other various factors. It’s an extremely beneficial investment when it comes to your health and well-being, especially since we offer many different payment and financing options. At your initial consultation, you’ll be able to discuss price expectations and get all of your financial questions answered.

What Our Patients Say

  • Your Child's First Visit

  • CareCredit

You can play a part in preparing your child for his or her first visit to our office. Informing your child of the visit as an exciting experience for both of you can ease any hesitations. As a parent try to act relaxed, since your child may sense any anxiety on your part.

Explain to your child that the doctor will “count, brush, and maybe take pictures of their teeth”. We also ask that you assume the role of a silent observer. Cooperation and trust must be established directly between the doctor, staff, and your child and not through you. Your child may become confused if receiving instructions from multiple sources.

We recommend bringing your baby in for their first dental appointment by their first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth appearing (whichever comes first). During this appointment, we will examine your baby’s mouth to track their dental development and discuss age-appropriate dental care.

It’s easy to make appointments to visit our office online or over the phone. Rio Dental sees patients both for checkups and dental emergencies. Using our online scheduler, you can select the location and time slot that works best for you for either type of appointment. If you have any questions regarding our practice, or simply prefer to make your appointment with a live member of staff, please don’t hesitate to call!

Rio Dental Group accepts most PPO insurances. We recommend that new patients and returning patients with new insurance policies reach out to us before their appointment to confirm coverage. Our Fort Worth location also sees patients who are covered by Medicaid and CHIP programs.

We don’t like surprises, either! Our staff is prepared to discuss the cost of dental services before you undergo treatment so that you know what to expect in terms of fees. The cost of your services will be due at the end of your appointment. Our office accepts payment by cash, credit card, or check.

Rio Dental Group allows patients to pay with their CareCredit card. CareCredit is a healthcare credit card designed to cover out-of-pocket costs at over 225,000 providers nationwide. After leaving the office, card holders will be able to make convenient monthly payments towards their balance. To learn more, visit the CareCredit website.
